“It looks like the Ecometer will only work with special smart meters from Landis and Gyr which are far more expensive than standard meters so the total cost of installing meters + display will be around £500. The Ewgeco display costs £450 but it will interface with standard meters which cost around £25 each for electricity and gas. So the total cost is about the same. The nice thing about the Ewgeco display is that it can also be set up to monitor other things like water or solar PV on the same display.

Try www.econtrols.co.uk/SmartMeters
Still need to check it's fully compliant - hope so as the alternative is way too expensive and they can only charge that until their monopoly position is broken.

A number of the power suppliers are now installing SMART meters that a number of different devices will connect to e.g. Eon www.eon-uk.com/services/smartmetering.aspx - but in this case it actually appears the monitor is the  Eco Controls system. Must be just a matter of time before other suppliers appear.

Anybody tried connecting their iPad to a SMART meter? If it was possible then just need an app written for the iPad !!

Hi

The Ecometers (£95 ex VAT) are being supplied by a Company called Energy Controls Group on behalf of Landis & Gyr.

They connected wirelessly to the E470 (Electricity)  (£195 ex VAT) and Libra 310P (Gas) (£195 ex VAT) SMART meters.

They also offer a monitoring service. If you want further details of costs etc, please send me a personal email message (files are too large to attach to this email.

Regards

Mark

The product is ecoMeter P350 by Landis and Gyr, at a quick glance if wired in seems to comply - I haven't checked against the exact criteria but the unit is sub £50!

Here is the link .....

I have been interrogating theoptions and at first it looks that only one product is available at £450-500 per unit. I have just contacted someone and once I can validate its compiance I will issue details in here. If it des comply it will read the smart gas meter but also talk to the electricity meter at around £40 a pop, a HUGE saving!!

Watch this space....as soon as I know I will let you know! :)
